Numerous colleges and universities are located in Manhattan, including Columbia University, New York University, The Cooper Union and Rockefeller University, which have been ranked among the top 50 in the world. The city of New York was founded at the southern tip of Manhattan, and the borough houses New York City Hall, the seat of city government.
